RALEIGH, N.C. — A mother who accidentally killed her infant daughter two years ago when she rolled on top of the child pleaded guilty Friday to child abuse and was placed on probation.

Corinne Julianne McCarthy, 30, was sleeping with the 6-week-old baby when she rolled on her, suffocating the infant, police said. She was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter, but the charge was reduced to a misdemeanor because authorities couldn't prove McCarthy was impaired at the time.

McCarthy, who is pregnant, was placed on probation for three years and was ordered to notify her probation officer when and where her next child is born and provide the name of the father.
