More Charges Filed Against Taylortown Councilman

A Taylortown Town Council member arrested on drug charges in July now faces more charges, authorities said.

TAYLORTOWN, N.C. — A Taylortown Town Council member arrested on drug charges in July now faces more charges, authorities said.

Lonnie Jones III, 38, of 118 Burch St., was charged two months ago with several crack cocaine-related charges. His brother, Scott Burch Jones, 26, also was charged in the case.

After a second investigation by Moore County authorities, Lonnie Jones was charged this week with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, selling and delivering cocaine, conspiracy to sell or deliver cocaine and two counts of maintaining a home to keep a controlled substance.

Jones, who has served on the Taylortown Town Council for 10 years, was released on a $50,000 unsecured bond.
