SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — A Moore County man was arrested Saturday after a brief standoff with deputies in which shots were fired, authorities said Monday.

Hubert Monroe, 51, of 1410 North Ridge St., was charged with four counts of assault with a deadly weapon on an officer and one count each of resisting a public officer, second-degree trespassing and an order for arrest for harassing phone calls.

Deputies were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on Monroe when several shots were fired at them from inside his home, authorities said. A brief standoff ensued before he was taken into custody. The Southern Pines Police Department and the state Highway Patrol assisted with this incident.
