DURHAM, N.C. — A missing 11-year-old Durham County girl has returned home safely, according to the Durham County Sheriff's Office.

A Silver Alert was issued for Kayla Brown around 7 a.m. Saturday. The alert was canceled around noon.

Kayla had last been seen getting on a school bus at Genesee and Bramble drives in a residential area off Guess Road, north of the city of Durham. She was reported missing from the Durham School of the Arts, 401 N. Duke St.

Kayla suffers from a cognitive impairment, and there was no evidence of an abduction, so she qualified for a Silver Alert, said Patty McQuillan, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Crime Control and Public Safety.
