Missing Clayton man returns safely

Posted October 14, 2010

— A Clayton man with a cognitive impairment returned safely to an assisted living facility Thursday after being missing for four days.

A Silver Alert for Jerry Wayne "Shorty" Holiday, 60, was issued Monday after he was seen walking away from the Clayton House, at 145 Dairy Road.

Holiday came back to the Clayton House on foot Thursday morning, police said. He hasn't said where he went, but appeared to be in good health.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system that quickly notifies the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
