Michael Harris, a social studies teacher at Phillips Middle School was named teacher of the year in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro district Friday evening.

<b>CHAPEL HILL, N.C.</b> — Michael Harris, a social studies teacher at Phillips Middle School was named teacher of the year in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro district Friday evening.

Harris earned his bachelor's degree from the University of California at Davis, and a teaching certificate from Chapman University in Orange, Calif.

His award included a $1,000 check from Harrington Bank as well as gifts from area businesses.
