Yeah, like the current amount of aid given through the form of private charity *and* public welfare isn't enough. Don't sit here and act like there aren't options. I promise you, the second we cut that 30 bil down to 20, we'd be evil imperialists only caring about ourselves or something ridiculous. We spend *plenty* on domestic affairs, but if you feel like we don't, go DO something about it, i.e. volunteer at a local soup kitchen. In the words of Family Guy, "Grab a ladle!"

UMMM....I think that what I said was exactly what I meant. Take 10% of the $30 billion given away to other countries, and use it for the homeless. Did you not read or just not understand?

Are you saying you would support increasing aid to the homeless to 30 billion a year if we eliminated foreign aid?

A lot of homeless people are mentally ill. As long as the gov't continues to marginalize treatment for the mentally ill, we'll keep seeing things like this happen.

If the US government would use just 10% of the money we simply give to other countries, in name of foreign aid, this kind of thing would be almost eradicated. If we look at the latest numbers from USAID.gov, which are from 2013, and we take only those numbers that include Mexico, through the absolute bottom of South America, we handed out 613.8 million. Again, this is only from Mexico down. This does not include any of the Middle East or Africa or Europe. When all of USAID's monetary gifts are totaled up, it comes to almost 30 billion. Yes, that's Billion with a "B". Just how much help do you think the homeless could receive, from a 3 Billion dollar annual budget?

Feel free to check my numbers. USAID.gov

It's not surprising with the cold nights we are getting. It's pretty sad that homeless people will risk freezing to death over staying in a shelter.
