Man, woman injured in Durham shooting

Two people were taken to Duke Hospital early Friday after a shooting near the intersection of Dayton Street and McDougal Terrace in Durham, police said.

DURHAM, N.C. — Two people were taken to Duke Hospital early Friday after a shooting on Dayton Street near the McDougald Terrace housing complex in Durham, police said. 

Details about the shooting weren't immediately available, but police said a man and woman were injured around 2 a.m. in a parking lot.

Latye Hawley, 18, was shot in the head and taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. Deja Garner, 20, was shot in the neck and had non-life threatening injuries, police said. Hawley was in critical condition late Friday morning, while Garner was in serious condition. 

Police have not made any arrests.
