ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A 21-year-old man is wanted by Rocky Mount police after his 66-year-old grandmother was beaten during a robbery Friday evening.

Nancy Outlaw told police that her grandson, Randall Clay Joyner, came to her home and asked for money. She refused and hid her purse behind her back, fearing he would take it, she said.

Joyner grabbed his grandmother's arm and wrestled the purse from her, police said. He he took $80 from the purse and fled before police arrived.

During the struggle, Outlaw's arm was broken, and she was hit in the face several times, police said. She was treated at Nash General Hospital.

Police have obtained warrants against Joyner for common-law robbery and assault inflicting serious injury.

He remains at large.

According to the state Department of Correction records, Joyner served 7 months in 2006 after his probation for two larceny convictions was revoked.
