— A man was shot Tuesday afternoon at a shopping center off Capital Boulevard in north Raleigh, police said

The shooting occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. outside Plato's Closet, a consignment shop in the Poyner Place shopping center, on Old Wake Forest Road east of Triangle Town Center.

Demarcus Montice Brown, 37, was shot in the chest, but his condition wasn't immediately known. Police said someone drove the wounded man to a Raleigh fire station on Spring Forest Road, where he was taken to WakeMed for treatment of what police called serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

No one was in custody, but police said they did not believe the shooting was a random attack.

Shopper Paula Adeniji said the incident is especially difficult to handle on Christmas Eve.

"The person involved, the families involved have to deal with this at Christmas time, on Christmas Eve, when it's supposed to be a joyous," Adeniji said. "They have to deal with this, not knowing the outcome. It's just sad."

That entire area has gone down hill fast in the past ten years.

I was on Capital Blvd going toward downtown (near Pep Boys) shortly after 2:30pm, when I heard someone shoot. It sounded like it was right beside me, but when I looked around, I couldnt see who it was. I assumed whomever it was, was shooting from their car. It was very scary and I said to myself then, Oh my God, somebody is going to get hurt! I do hope that this is an isolated incident and we wont have some crazy person going around town shooting at everyone.
