GARNER, N.C. — At least one parent was struck by a pellet fired from a passing car outside Vandora Springs Elementary School Wednesday morning, authorities said.

A group of parents was preparing for an event at the school at about 9:30 a.m. when a car drove past and a man leaned out and fired a pellet gun, Assistant Principal Kathy Blair said.

One parent was hit in the back of the neck and shoulder and another might have been hit in the foot, Blair said. Neither person was seriously injured, she said.

No children were outside  at the time, Blair said.

Police are investigating the incident but said they believe it was a case of random violence.
