ENFIELD, N.C. — Halifax County deputies wound up collecting more tickets than they issued Tuesday after confiscating allegedly homemade lottery tickets during a traffic stop.

Tonicellis Marshall, 37, of Enfield, was charged with operating an illegal lottery and possessing illegal lottery tickets. He was released on an unsecured bond.

After the state Highway Patrol stopped a car for a traffic violation, the driver also was cited for having a suspended license.

Two Halifax County Sheriff's Office investigators stopped to assist as the citation was issued and found a backpack in the car that contained several homemade lottery tickets and more than $6, 800 in cash, authorities said.
