Man robs Raleigh bank, uses taxi as getaway car

Posted May 15, 2013

— A 62-year-old man was charged Tuesday evening after Raleigh police say he robbed the State Employees' Credit Union on Corporation Parkway in east Raleigh.

According to investigators, Jimmy Seth Perry entered the branch about 2 p.m. Tuesday and passed a note demanding money to a teller. Perry got into a taxi and left the bank heading east on New Bern Avenue.

Raleigh police notified Knightdale police, who tracked down Perry and detained him in a parking lot. He was charged with common law robbery.

Perry was in the Wake County jail Wednesday under a $50,000 secured bond.

He looks as if he could use the help. Now he has the help, 3 squares, free medical, etc.

" He knew the consequences of getting caught, and to me, I think it was his desperate call for help in a BIG way!"

Nonsense. Plenty of help is available. The man is a thief and not a very good thief.

If you are robbing a bank it seems to me you can afford a limo.

So about the only thing left now is for someone to try a rickshaw as a getaway vehicle.

I agree.....he did this mainly because he needs a place to stay and yet still be taken care of. A lot of people don't mind committing these acts, especially when they have reached the bottom and have no place to stay and/or no one to look after them. He knew the consequences of getting caught, and to me, I think it was his desperate call for help in a BIG way!

That was smart. But they got their man any way.

You can't make this stuff up.

I was thinking after reading this the same thing that others thought; he needs a place to stay. It's kind of funny (though scary I am sure for the employees and customers who were there at the time).
