A man suspected of stealing a backpack from a Duke University library was pepper sprayed by university police after refusing to exit a campus bus and resisting arrest Monday evening, school officials said.

DURHAM, N.C. — A man suspected of stealing a backpack from a Duke University library was pepper sprayed by university police after refusing to exit a campus bus and resisting arrest on Monday, school officials said.
The man, who is not a Duke student, was taken to the Durham County jail.
No other information was released Monday night.
