— A car involved in a wreck on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh Saturday evening struck and injured a man standing on the sidewalk.

Police said that Shana Hoffman Barefoot, 66, of 1009 Parker St., ran a red light and struck an oncoming vehicle while turning left from Hollyridge Drive onto Glenwood Avenue shortly after 5 p.m. The second vehicle ran off the road and hit Mahmoud "Sammy" Ismail Abdelalim.

Abdelalim, 62, of Raleigh, was in critical condition in the neuro critical care unit at WakeMed.

Barefoot and a 14-year-old girl in her car were also taken to WakeMed, while the Audi driver, 18-year-old Wisam Adnan Al-Dwehji, of Raleigh, was treated at Rex Hospital.

Barefoot was charged with driving without an operator's license and failure to yield the right of way. Police said that Al-Dwehji had a steady green light to go through the intersection.

I work with Sam too & he is such a nice humble guy...always appreciative of favors & never has a bad word to say about anybody. This is such a terrible thing as some family is completely dependent upon him and they are struggling right now. I echo as400-guru's plea for prayers.

This is so sad. Isn't it time now for traffic enforcement? We've has so many pedestrians hit by vehicles, bicyclist hit by vehicles, several hit n runs just in the last 3 weeks. Most of these tragedies involved disregard for traffic laws i.e. speeding, illegal lane change, running stop signs, etc. Some seem to think traffic laws mean very little. Wake up folks! How many have to die so that you can get to your destination on time? So very, very sad. My prayers go out to man that was struck and the families of all those who were injured.

That intersection has a lot of close calls eveyday. When making that left onto Hollyridge you have cars coming eastbound doing like 70mph+. Then you have cars coming out of intersection adjacent to Glennwood crawling to get to the light. Surprised that there not more accidents there.

I was at work right in front of the light when this wreck happened. Still just thinking about it gives me chills. The man on the sidewalk wasn't moving and people were rushing from everywhere to check on the people but nobody would touch him. We were so worried that he had been killed.
