A man was killed early Monday in a single-vehicle crash when his car caught fire.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — A man was killed early Monday in a single-vehicle crash after his car caught fire.

Around 3:45 a.m., officials responded to a crash near 2741 Camp Easter Road near the intersection of McDeeds Creek Road and N.C. Highway 22.

Officials say the 2004 Chevrolet Venture van off the road, ejecting 32-year-old Armando Campos.

Firefighters found the van fully engulfed in flames about 200 feet from the road. Officials say Campos, who was declared dead at the scene, was found about 100 feet from the burning van.

Campos was from Colorado and was staying with some friends in the area, officials said.

The crash is under investigation.
