Man charged with murder in Durham stabbing death

A 25-year-old man was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of a 36-year-old man who was found dead outside a residence in the 3400 block of Glenn Road Saturday while police were responding to a possible breaking and entering call.

DURHAM, N.C. — A 25-year-old man was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of a 36-year-old man who was found dead outside a residence in the 3400 block of Glenn Road Saturday while police were responding to a possible breaking and entering call.

According to investigators, deputies responded to the call at about 9:15 p.m. and found Jose Luis Delatorre dead in the backyard of his home. They believe Dellatorre was involved in a dispute with Efren Ernesto Caballero-Martinez, who lives nearby.

​Caballero-Martinez is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree burglary, authorities said. He is also charged with two counts of assault for assaulting the victim's wife and 16-month old child during the fight. The mother and child were treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

Caballero-Martinez was being held at the Durham County jail. The investigation is ongoing.
