— A Raleigh man was indicted on an upgraded charge of kidnapping this week in connection with a sexual assault last month in Cary.

Adrian Atwater, 34, of Grove Wood Drive, was arrested Oct. 21 on charges of second-degree kidnapping, second-degree sexual offense and felony strangulation in the case.

A Wake County grand jury on Monday, however, returned a true bill of indictment of first-degree kidnapping, in addition to the other two charges.

Cary police say Atwater allegedly held another man hostage in his home for about eight hours and physically and sexually assaulted him.

This man should go to jail and actually stay there this time, I read before he only served nine months - for a similiar charge, or a charge of assault on a female, I can't remember exactly the nature of his crime, but obviously, he needs to be in jail, for a VERY long time. Sick human being.

You don't need a passport to go to Cary. Not every neighborhood has a home owners association and there are many affordable places to live in many areas. Like any town, there are pockets of higher crime or activities rating police attention. For the size of the population, it is a remarkably peaceful place to live in spite of the despicable acts of the ahole in the story.

can't speak for the other municipalities mentioned but the population in Cary has increased nearly fourfold in 20 years. If per capita crime stays the same then that would mean a nearly fourfold increase in newsworthy crimes to reported.

pinehorse/ Read the article again. The suspect committed the crime in Cary but lives in Raleigh. Tell us how Cary could have prevented this from happening.

pinehorse - "Looks like Cary's non-stick, crime-free teflon coating is wearing thin..."

It does seem like we're seeing the town's name in the news a lot the last couple of years.

    Wonder why?

I mean, it's not like you read about a lot of crime in Zebulon, or Wendell, or Fuquay Varina, or even Apex which is right next to Cary.

    Very odd.

    God bless.

"Looks like Cary's non-stick, crime-free teflon coating is wearing thin..." Sounds like you're a little bitter there pinehorse? We all know there is crime everywhere, looks like you're just made you don't or can't live there...lol.

"Cary police say Atwater allegedly held another man hostage in his home for about eight hours and physically and sexually assaulted him."

If that's the case, it appears he thought he got away with it once, he could do it again.
