Man crashes motorcycle, dies in Wayne County

A man was killed Saturday in a motorcycle crash after leading a state trooper on a chase in Johnston County, according to authorities.

WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — A man was killed Saturday evening in a motorcycle crash after leading a state trooper on a chase in Johnston County, according to authorities. 

Troopers said they attempted to stop 34-year-old Ahmad Sharrieff on US 70 for a speeding violation when he fled. 

 After entering Wayne County, the driver lost control of his motorcycle and hit a highway sign near Commerce Parkway. 

According to troopers, he was pronounded dead the scene and was later taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
