Man charged with sex crime after 20-year-old investigation, police say

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police charged a man with a sexual assault that allegedly happened 20 years ago.

Herman Wallace, 59, of West Rowan Street, Fayetteville, was charged with second-degree sex offense, according to the Fayetteville Police Department. Wallace was an acquaintance of the victim at the time of the alleged crime.

Police said the sexual assault investigation began between Aug. 1997 and April 1998.

Wallace was jailed under a $5,000 secured bond.
