HOPE MILLS, N.C. — A local man has been charged with kidnapping and sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl, authorities said Friday.

Andrew Lawson Rogers, 27, of 4727 Slew Drive, was charged with statutory rape, statutory sex offense, second-degree kidnapping and taking indecent liberties with a minor. He was being held Friday in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $180,000 bond.

The girl told investigators a man began touching her inappropriately last December, and the abuse escalated to the point where he kidnapped her and forced her to engage in sex acts.

Rogers' brother-in-law, Michael Lewis Strickland, 29, of 6159 Parkton Road in Hope Mills, was charged with obstruction of justice in the case. Authorities said he threatened the girl's family, including saying he planned to run over her younger sister.
