Man charged with indecent exposure at Southern Pines park

Posted September 24, 2009

— A 56-year-old Aberdeen man has been charged with indecent exposure and driving while intoxicated.

Police received a report on Sept. 12 of a person exposing himself at Reservoir Park in Southern Pines.

Witnesses reported the suspect vehicle description and officers stopped a vehicle matching that description on Central Drive (N.C. Highway 22) as it left the park, police said.

An investigation determined that Phillip Jeffery Edwards was exposing himself in a public place in the presence of minors and that he was intoxicated when operating the vehicle, police said.

Edwards appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and was placed under a $21,000 secured bond pending trial on Sept. 30 in Moore County District Court.

I know this person and it is NOT as it described. The man is a retired Special Forces major who wears the old nylon track running shorts when he excercises. We have alot of retired military who wear these shorts. Someone thought he wasn't wearing shorts because of his long t shirt. He was NOT exposing himself in some kind of sexual manner.

Public Parks have long been the hangout for perverts and others desiring to engage in ilicit sexual/homosexual behaviors. Next time you go to Umstead Park, keep a look out for men in their vehicles backed into parking spots hiding their plates awaiting "visitors". Parents beware.

That's just lovely. One of the better places to take off for a run or bike with your kids and you get creeps like this....
