Man charged with DWI in Granville County tractor-trailer crash

A Stokes County man was charged with DWI and commercial DWI Friday evening after the tractor-trailer he was driving crashed on U.S. Highway 56 in Granville County.

GRANVILLE COUNTY, N.C. — A Stokes County man was charged with DWI and commercial DWI Friday evening after the tractor-trailer he was driving crashed on N.C. Highway 56 in Granville County.

According to authorities, Jack Watts, of King, was driving west on N.C. Highway 56 at about 6 p.m. when he ran off the roadway. The truck then struck a mailbox, traveled down an embankment, struck a utility pole and overturned.

The trailer was carrying 1,000 gallons of fuel, authorities said. The fuel did not spill.

Watts was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, investigators said.

The road was closed Friday night following the crash.
