RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh man has been charged with setting fire to his Raleigh apartment.

Police arrested Robert Lee Utley, Jr., 37, of 1319 Kent Road, on Monday. He is charged with first-degree arson.

The fire started around 5 a.m. Friday at the Trees and Leaves Apartments. Four apartments were destroyed, and three others were damaged by smoke. Twelve people were displaced.

One person was injured after jumping from a window. A firefighter also hurt his wrist when he fell, authorities said.

A source said the fire was the result of an argument between a married couple and that a 5-gallon can of gasoline was found at the scene, but police have not commented further on the case.

Utley is free on bond.
