Man charged in I-440 wreck that injured two
Hunter Macon Howell, 23, is facing DWI and other charges in connection with a wreck on Interstate 440 early Saturday that left two people in critical condition.
Posted — UpdatedRaleigh police said the crash happened about 4 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-440 between New Bern Avenue and U.S. Highway 264.
Police said a 1999 Porsche 911 driven by Hunter Macon Howell, 23, of 3101 Redmond Court, struck the rear of a 2011 Ford Focus driven by Shelby Warren Wallace, 71. Marvin Lee Pendergraph, 66, was a passenger in the Focus.
Wallace and Pendergraph were taken to WakeMed.
Wallace was in critical condition Sunday afternoon; Pendergraph was in serious condition.
Howell was treated and released at WakeMed, then taken into custody and charged with two counts of felony serious injury by vehicle, driving while impaired, failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, not having state-required insurance and operating a vehicle with a revoked registration plate.
He was being held at the Wake County Detention Center under a $150,000 bond.
