FRANKLINTON, N.C. — A man accused of killing his girlfriend over the weekend has been moved to Central Prison in Raleigh for safekeeping.

Franklin County authorities arrested David Bishop, 24, Tuesday afternoon on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the April 19 shooting of Gabrielle Reece.

Reece, 19, was shot in the head at a house just south of Louisburg. When authorities responded to the shooting, they found Bishop and another man trying to dispose of her body.

Bishop fled and surrendered to authorities Tuesday afternoon.

He was being held in the Franklin County jail without bond Tuesday evening. It was unclear why he had been moved to Central Prison, a maximum-security facility.

Bishop was on probation at the time of his arrest for a March 16 conviction on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and had been arrested a week prior to Reece's death.

Reece's family has planned a memorial for her Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home, 405 S. Main St. in Wake Forest. Visitation will immediately follow the memorial.
