Man charged in four Durham home invasions

Durham police officers charged a man in four armed home invasions this week after finding guns in his car during a traffic stop Friday morning.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police officers charged a man in four armed home invasions this week after finding guns in his car during a traffic stop Friday morning.

Sgt. M.D. Berendson stopped a blue Chevrolet Malibu on Guess Road, near Fawn Avenue around 9:45 a.m. The car matched the description of one used in at least one home invasion. Inside the car, officers said, they found two guns and other items.

They arrested Jose Javier Reyes Marquez, 36, of Weather Hill Circle, on seven counts of second-degree kidnapping, four counts each of of robbery with a dangerous weapon and breaking-and-entering, and one count each of larceny and possession of a stolen firearm.

Police said they are still trying to develop information the second man in the following incidents:

  • June 22 on North Roxboro Road – Two men armed with guns and wearing bandannas over their faces kicked in the door around 11:30 a.m. and robbed the resident of cash.
  • June 23 on Chapel Hill Road – Two men wearing bandannas over their faces robbed a man of cash, jewelry and cameras at gunpoint around 11:30 a.m. The victim was punched in the mouth and kicked during the robbery.
  • June 24 on Duke Homestead Road – A man was mowing his lawn around 1:15 p.m. when two men wearing bandannas over their faces and armed with guns forced him into the house, kicked him, ordered him to the ground and robbed him of credit cards, a cell phone and electronic items.
  • June 25 on West Knox Street – Two men armed with guns entered the house and robbed the female resident of her debit card around 11:15 a.m.
