ZEBULON, N.C. — One person is facing charges following a crash involving a Zebulon police officer Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities said Officer Travis Casper was traveling south on Arendell Avenue in response to a nearby wreck when a Chevrolet Impala that was traveling east on Gannon Avenue failed to yield to Casper’s lights and siren and crossed the intersection.

The Impala, driven by Juan Carolos Santiago, 30, of Middlesex, struck the front of Casper’s police cruiser, authorities said.

Casper and Santiago were both taken to WakeMed with non-life threatening injuries.

Santiago was charged with failure to heed blue lights and siren and driving without a license.

Authorities said Casper has been a member of the Zebulon Police Department for three-and-a-half years.
