A shark bit the leg of a man off of the coast of Beaufort Inlet on Thursday afternoon, officials said. 

<b>BEAUFORT, N.C.</b> — A shark bit the leg of a man off of the coast of Beaufort Inlet on Thursday afternoon, officials said. 

The man, whose name was not released, was swimming with friends in about 70 to 80 feet of water when he was bitten.

He was taken to Carteret General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency officials said he will likely need surgery. No one else was injured.
