Man arrested in Jackson Hamlet shooting
Moore County sheriff's deputies arrested a Southern Pines man Saturday for allegedly shooting into an occupied car in Jackson Hamlet earlier in November.

On Nov. 15, Douglas Harris, 35, of Southern Pines, told deputies that someone had shot at him while driving. Investigators found bullet holes in Harris' vehicle.
Warrants were issued the arrest of Loren Robert Ellis, 29, of Southern Pines, on charges of shooting into occupied property and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Deputies arrested Ellis during a vehicle stop in Jackson Hamlet Nov. 29. After the traffic stop, he was additionally charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
Ellis was being held in the Moore County Jail under a $85,000 secured bond and made his first court appearance Monday.
At the time of his arrest, Ellis was listed as an absconder from probation in Moore County, according to state Department of Correction records. Ellis was placed on probation in July for assault inflicting serious injury and driving while impaired.
He has a lengthy criminal record dating to 1997 for offenses including selling drugs and breaking-and-entering stolen vehicles. He has been sentenced to probation six offenses and violated his probation six times.
