FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 60-year-old Wyoming man has been charged in connection with the robbery of a bank on Green Street Friday evening, police said Tuesday.

Ernest Richardson Michaelson, of Ioha, Wyo., was arrested Monday after an officer spotted him at a Walgreen's store on Grove Street. The officer stopped him because he matched the suspect description in the bank robbery.

Investigators later searched a house on the 300 block of Vernon Court, where Michaelson was staying, and found the shirt that was believed to be used in the bank robbery, police said.

Michaelson also is wanted in Connecticut for a parole violation, police said.

He faces one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon and was being held Tuesday in the Cumberland County jail under a $50,000 bond.

Police said Michaelson walked into the Capital Bank, at 225 Green St., around 5:45 p.m. and handed the clerk a note demanding money and stating that he had a weapon. The clerk gave him an undisclosed amount of cash, and he fled the bank on foot.
