MEBANE, N.C. — On Friday, Feb. 25, the plan was to meet an artist named Tyamica Mabry. Her new art collection was being revealed at the Mebane Arts & Community Center. I hadn't heard of her before the announcement of this event. However, after visiting her website, I was left completely in awe. My daughters and I knew we had to see her newest pieces.

Circumstances didn't allow us to make the reception, unfortunately. Therefore, I recently went on my own to check things out. It was such a joy to my soul.

Nature + Humanity = ART.

That's the basis of Tyamica's new exhibit. While learning more of her story, I discovered she suffered a truly heartbreaking experience not long ago. A few months to be exact. And this collection stemmed from that.

Through art and time spent in nature, Tyamica is on a journey of healing. It's evident in her artwork. Each piece has it's own magnificent energy.

I resonate deeply with the power of nature to heal. In some of the most stressful and painful times of my life, I've headed outside to find calm. It's one of many reasons I love to hike.

I've stepped into the sun's rays to find warmth and peace. I've laid in the grass with my daughters-surrendered to the Earth- to let my mind think of nothing but shapes in the clouds. I've often sat by the river to let its cleansing essence wash away my worries.

Anything to escape the reality of whatever I was experiencing.

I still do these things today.

I love that Tyamica is finding the same solace in nature. And she is generous enough to share a part of that publicly. It's a gift to us all.

No... I don't know this amazing woman personally but I admire her work. I also find it humorously intriguing that she realized her talent by happenstance. An attempt at drawing cartoon characters revealed a new truth... the woman has skills y'all!

The "Human Nature" collection can be purchased. In addition to artwork, there are tote bags, earrings, and t-shirts available. Everything can be found on her website.
To keep up with Tyamica's work, you can also find her on Instagram. This is one place I'm following her journey.

Hopefully, I've given you a new artist to watch out for and support; an artist born and raised right here in North Carolina. If I'm not mistaken, the collection will be at the Mebane Arts & Community Center for a few more weeks.

Stop by, take in the views, then grab a bite at one of Mebane's many nearby restaurants. Or, grab a cup of coffee (see this article for suggestions).

That's how you can make an afternoon of it!

I must say... nothing compares to seeing Tyamica's artwork in person. However, you can still show support by visiting her website, purchasing her inventory, following her platforms, and sharing her work.
