CLAYTON, N.C. — A Clayton woman was charged Tuesday with embezzling more than $200,000 from a political action committee.

Stacy Flannery, the former director of legislative affairs for the North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association, was charged in connection with the theft of money from the group's PAC.

Authorities said they believe the money was taken over a seven-year period. The case was investigated by the State Board of Elections and the Wake County District Attorney's Office.

Association President Craig Souza said the PAC has received full restitution.
