Limited-edition collectible card set launches, highlighting 150 years of Cary's history
In honor of the 150th Anniversary of the town's founding, local Cary businesses are working together to release a set of limited-edition collector's cards in April.
Posted — UpdatedOne card, for example, highlights some of Cary's earliest inhabitants, who lived here long before the town was established: The Tuscarora tribe.
"The original inhabitants of Cary were members of the Tuscarora tribe, dating back to the 1500s and 1600s," the card reads. "Native American artifacts are still being found today around the Cary Parkway and Jack Smith Park. Nearby Green Level was named by the local Tuscarora, who found it to be a level and green place for meetings between tribes."
Another card explores the mysterious legend of the High House in Cary – a historic house that is no longer standing, which is tied with legends of buried treasure and haunted woods around Maynard Road.
Yet another recalls the original Kildaire Farm, which was established in 1920 by Dr. Benjamin Kilgore, Dean of Agriculture at NCSU and founder of Pine State Creamery.
How do you find these limited-edition cards?
The limited-edition cards are free during the first distribution this month, but when they are gone, they're gone.
"They may be for sale as packs later this year," said Loflin, who developed the concept for the Cary Commemorative Cards.
"These are the lesser-known stories of Cary, and you don't want to miss it collecting them all," she said.
Finding the cards if part of a Scavenger Hunt that supports local businesses in Cary.
