Lejeune official faces exploitation charges

An aide to the commanding general of Camp Lejeune-based II Marine Expeditionary Force has been arrested in connection with a state and federal child pornography investigation.

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — An aide to the commanding general of Camp Lejeune-based II Marine Expeditionary Force has been arrested in connection with a state and federal child pornography investigation.

Capt. Daniel Joseph Nilsson was charged in Pender County on Oct. 5 with six counts of second-degree exploitation of a minor.

The charges followed a three-month investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation. The case has been turned over to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the FBI cyber crimes task force.

Nilsson, who was released on bond, has been placed on administrative duty pending the resolution of the case.
