According to the DoD, 1.6M Americans have served in Afghanistan and Iraq. These volunteers make up less than 0.5% of the population. Of the general population, 94% don't know anyone who has served in Iraq or Afghanistan.

This Marine is #1648 of #1649 US KIA in Afghanistan.

And btw - our beloved nephew is serving over their right now. If I didn't know how much it meant to him to serve, to wear the uniform, to be a part of the USMC - I might agree with some of you, but I understand because I wore the uniform too, and so did my dad.

    It's a calling we're proud to answer.

Most non-military people are, because they don't understand these men and women chose this path in life because of a calling, and they're proud to do so - even in the face of danger.
