Lejeune-based medic killed in Afghanistan

A Camp Lejeune-based Navy medic died of injuries inflicted by an improvised explosive device in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan, the military announced Sunday.

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — A Camp Lejeune-based Navy medic died of injuries inflicted by an improvised explosive device in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan, the military announced Sunday.

Hospital Corpsman Edwin Gonzalez, 22, of North Miami Beach, Fla., died on Friday.

He was assigned to the 2nd Marine Division, Fleet Marine Forces.
