Lee County to use longer school day to make up for snow days
Students in Lee County won't have to attend school on Saturdays to make up days they've missed in recent weeks due to winter weather, the school system announced Wednesday.

The Lee County Board of Education on Tuesday approved a plan that adds 15 minutes to the school day March 4 through June 9 for students on the traditional, year-round and Lee Early College calendars.
Principals at each school will have the flexibility to use the 15 minutes as they see fit, but the time will not be used to lengthen lunch periods or recess, officials said. Buses will run 15 minutes later in the afternoon, officials said.
The school board also announced the addition of a teacher work day on May 6.
Nine of the schools in the district are used by the Lee County Board of Elections as polling places, and officials changed the teacher work day to accommodate large numbers of voters expected at the polls during the May primary.
