Duke police release sketches of robbery suspects

Law enforcement agencies in Orange County are joining forces to track the two men suspected in armed robberies on the campuses of Duke University and UNC-Chapel Hill and in the Town of Chapel Hill over the past 48 hours.

DURHAM, N.C. — Duke University Police released a sketch on Monday they hope will lead to the capture of two men who committed an armed robbery early Friday on Swift Avenue.

The robbery has been linked to others that took place late last week both in Chapel Hill and on the campus of the University of North Carolina there.

In each incident, victims described two to four assailants in their early 20s and a light tan or gold sedan used as a getaway car.

The sketch shows a man in his late 20s or early 30s with dark hair in twists. The victim estimated that man was between 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed around 145 pounds.

The second man was described as bald or clean-shaven, about 20 to 25 years old, about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds.

The victim told campus police that the smaller man was holding a gun and appeared to be right handed.

The first robberies occurred around 11 p.m. Wednesday outside a UNC dorm. Around midnight Friday, Chapel Hill police received reports to two robberies within 10 minutes about a half-mile apart on East Franklin Street. Another robbery was reported at Duke-owned apartment complex on Swift Avenue shortly before 2 a.m.

The robbers took cash, cellphones and other items, police said.
