Large balloon knocks out power for hundreds in Durham

Hundreds of people were without power Sunday afternoon after a balloon struck a power line in Durham.

DURHAM, N.C. — Hundreds of people were without power for about two hours Sunday afternoon after a balloon struck a power line in Durham.

Authorities said that about 950 customers lost power just before 3 p.m. after a Mylar balloon struck a power line near U.S. Highway 15-501 and Hillsborough Road in Durham.

Power was restored at about 5 p.m.
