RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh, Durham and Durham County are jointly acquiring 134 acres in Durham County for watershed protection for Falls Lake and for a park, officials said Wednesday.

The Raleigh City Council voted Tuesday to approve the acquisition. The city will put $250,000 toward the $2.3 million acquisition.

The property is located off Southview Road and drains into Lick Creek, which flows into Falls Lake. Up to 15 acres of the property will be set aside for a park to be operated by Durham and Durham County.

Falls Lake is the primary source of drinking water for Raleigh, Garner, Wake Forest, Rolesville, Knightdale, Wendell and Zebulon.
