Juveniles charged with vandalizing Wayne cemetery

Wayne County authorities said Tuesday that they have charged three juveniles with causing about $100,000 damage to a church cemetery and a Boy Scouts facility.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Wayne County authorities said Tuesday that they have charged three juveniles with causing about $100,000 damage to a church cemetery and a Boy Scouts facility.

Providence United Methodist Church, at 202 Providence Church Road, reported that a building on church property used as a Boy Scout facility was broken into last month and damaged and that tombstones in the church cemetery were knocked over and broken.

Investigators found a baseball bat near the cemetery and identified some youths who live nearby as suspects.

The three juveniles have been charged with one count each of breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering and 83 counts of disturbing a grave marker.
