DURHAM, N.C. — A juvenile who escaped from the Durham County Youth Home on Saturday turned himself in about 24 hours later, authorities said.

The 16-year-old, identified as Darren D., left the home, at 2432 Broad Street in Durham, just before 1 p.m. Saturday. He returned with his parents Sunday afternoon.

Authorities said Darren D. escaped by scaling a fence and jumping from a rooftop.

Charges against him, which are not made public in cases involving juveniles, could be upgraded due to the escape.
