KNIGHTDALE, N.C. — A juvenile has been charged with starting a fire that caused thousands dollars worth of damage at a Dollar General store in Knightdale Saturday morning.

Firefighters said the juvenile used a lighter to set some gift cards on fire inside the store at 7043 Knightdale Blvd. around 10:20 a.m. The fire spread to nearby clothing for sale before employees put it out with fire extinguishers.

Police arrested the juvenile, whose identity wasn't released, firefighters said.

Dollar General district manager Mike Moore said the fire damaged between $6,000 and $8,000 worth of merchandise.

The store was closed while staff cleaned up, but Moore expected it to be reopened Saturday evening.
