Junk yard fire sends black smoke into Durham skies

Vehicles, parts and containers were on fire Tuesday afternoon at a junk yard in northeast Durham, sending black smoke billowing into the air.

DURHAM, N.C. — Vehicles, parts and containers burned Tuesday afternoon at CLS Towing in northeast Durham, sending black smoke billowing into the air.
The fire started just after 4 p.m. on property bordered by Jefferies and Glenn roads and Varina Drive, and the cause was not immediately apparent. By 6 p.m., firefighters with the Redwood Volunteer Fire Department had the fire largely contained.

No one was injured, but many cars on the property were burned.
