Johnston County issues rabies notice

Posted October 15, 2010

— Public health officials in Johnston Couty issued a rabies notice for part of Smithfield Friday after tests on a cat were positive for the virus.

The area affected is the vicinity of the 2100 block of Galilee Road.

Officials urge residents to stay away from unfamiliar animals and to be aware of any acting in an unusual manner.

Anyone bitten or scratched by an unknown animal should seek medical help immediately, officials said.

Residents can report suspicious animals to Johnston County Animal Services at 919-934-8474.

Yeah, that is the same road WSE is on.

loakl, it is the same in Lenoir county. We had an obviously rabid fox in the yard and no one was willing to come out and help. I found out that it was possible to kill a fox with bird shot-it just takes more. That was the day I also decided that I am incapable of murdering a human...it is way too labor intensive to dig a hole that deep!!

Yeah you can report suspicious animals but they won't do anything unless they are attacking you. I know first hand. I had a rabid racoon in my yard and that is what they told me. Lot of good that does.
