I-95 South Temporarily Closed in Smithfield

The closures are necessary to replace a damaged beam in the Brogden Road Bridge over I-95.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — The state Department of Transportation will temporarily close Interstate 95 South in Smithfield just north of Exit 95 at Brogden Road on Tuesday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., weather permitting.

The closures are necessary to replace a damaged beam in the Brogden Road Bridge over I-95.

The damaged beam was removed last week, and a new beam will be installed Tuesday. During construction, a signed detour will be in place.

Motorists traveling south on I-95 will be directed to turn right onto an access road connecting them to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, which runs parallel to I-95. Motorists will travel south on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, cross over Brogden Road and continue to the on-ramp back to I-95 South.

Brogden Road will be closed to all other traffic Tuesday. Motorists wanting to access I-95 South from Brogden Road will be directed to take U.S. Highway 301 South to U.S. Highway. 701 South to I-95 South.

Motorists wanting to access I-95 North from Brogden Road will be directed to take U.S. 301 North to U.S. 70 Business East to I-95 North.
