According to Shoe Digest, the best website I have recently discovered, it is not a good idea to throw canvas sneakers into the washing machine.
Here is how Shoe Digest recommends cleaning canvas sneakers by hand: Remove the shoe laces. Mix a few drops of detergent into a bowl of water. Dip a toothbrush into the detergent solution, and scrub the stain from the outside of the stain in. Gently but thoroughly rinse off the detergent, trying not to wet the inside of the shoe.
To dry the canvas sneakers, ball up some paper and stick it in the shoes. Then place the shoes in a well-ventilated area and allow to air dry.
