RALEIGH, N.C. — Fire investigators say that a house fire on Virginia Avenue was set Saturday evening.

A 911 call alerted firefighters to the fire at 607 Virginia Ave. at 8:16 p.m., according to the incident report. Twenty-four firefighters worked to put out the blaze.

The fire damaged 20 percent of the one-story, wood-frame home, rendering it uninhabitable, fire officials said. Two people were displaced.

The fire caused moderate damage to the room where it started and minor smoke damage throughout the rest of the building, the incident report said.

After examining the scene and talking to witnesses, investigators determined that the cause of the fire was arson.

Fire officials and Raleigh police were continuing to investigate Sunday afternoon.
