House burns in Apex

A house in the 300 block of Grassy Point Road in Apex burned Monday afternoon, and neighboring homes suffered heat damage.

APEX, N.C. — A house in the 300 block of Grassy Point Road in Apex burned Monday afternoon, and neighboring homes suffered heat damage

Neighbors said heavy smoke was spotted before flames shot out of the house's roof at about 3 p.m.

A father and two children live in the home, according to neighbors. They were not home at the time of the fire.

Two cats were found in the basement. They were OK and taken to a veterinarian to be checked out, neighbors said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday afternoon.
